Georgia football lived up to the preseason hype in their first game of 2018. The Bulldogs cruised to a 45-0 victory over the Austin Peay Governors.

Georgia football didn’t lay an egg Saturday, they just posted one in the visitors column. The Bulldogs played an amazing, highlight-filled first game on Saturday. They sent Austin Peay home with a 45-0 defeat. By the end of the game, Georgia was using its third and fourth-string players.

Prior to reaching that far into the depth chart, the first and second string players went six-for-six in the first half with five touchdowns and one field goal. Not a single punt was kicked in the first half by Jake Camarda.

With all of those highlights, it would normally be hard to pick out one play. But one play did stand out over the rest Saturday, that was Demetris Robertson’s 72-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Jim Cheney called a play that’s become a staple of his run-oriented offense; the end-around. This time, Robertson got the call. The newcomer from California flew around the end and immediately had enough yards to consider his first carry as a Dawg a success. However, he had some blocking help in front of him and he wasn’t going to let their effort go to waste. He hit another burst of speed and after passing his blockers, it was clear he wasn’t going to be caught.

Just like that, Robertson’s first carry as a member of the Georgia football team was an electric touchdown. On one play, he showed the fans in attendance and those watching at home what all the fuss was about. This is why Kirby Smart re-recruited him when Robertson decided to leave California.

That most likely won’t be the last highlight of Robertson’s Bulldog career. Hopefully, Robertson has a few highlights in him this week. The Dawgs will probably need them in their SEC opener versus South Carolina.
