3: No Roquan means adjustment for the LBs.
It still looks odd seeing the Dawgs out there without number 3 sitting in the middle of the defense. Tyson Campbell has claimed that name and he looked good, but it’s just not the same as seeing Roquan essentially neutralizing threats left and right.
The linebacking group saw plenty of rotation as the Dawgs tried a few different players out. Tae Crowder actually flashed to me. He certainly ran to the ball when he was on the field and delivered some big strikes when given the opportunity. Monty Rice also did the same and those two guys look like they could be a part of an effective interior rotation.
On the outside, the Dawgs are certainly loaded with talent. D’Andre Walker had UGA’s only turnover of the game after he recovered a fumble in the first half. Walter Grant again showed his versatility and I really think that he’s going to be a player we continue to see more and more often over the next few years. He just consistently does his job and doesn’t seem to make mental mistakes.
It was also great to see a few flashes from some of the younger players. Adam Anderson made an impact when he came in and clearly, has elite pass rushing ability. Brenton Cox moved around and ended up seeing time both standing up and with his hand on the ground. We also saw our first Robert beal sighting and that’s another potential pass rusher who could trouble offensive linemen this year.
Again, the Dawgs do have some learning and growth to do in this position group. They are never going to replace Roquan, but the coaches have to be happy with what they saw on film. There are some players here that are going to make a big impact in 2018 and beyond. The future is definatley bright, even if it was just one game.
