Georgia Football looks like a team that is going to be built on speed on both sides of the ball in 2018.
Having rewatched the Austin Peay game a few times, one thing kept standing out in every quarter. This Georgia Football team is fast. As in it’s really, really fast. Both sides of the ball are absolutely loaded with speed and we’re not just talking about one or two players here. We’re talking about second and third stringers as well, all of whom seemed to just move quicker than their opponents on Saturday.
Yes, I know that it was Austin Peay and that it will be a different story this weekend about South Carolina. But I also went back and rewatched some of the Dawgs games against lesser opponents last year. Whether it was Samford or App State, UGA did not seem to possess the same type of speed as they do this year. They were a disciplined and well-organized team, but the raw talent seems to have improved this season.
That’s not to say that they are going to be better. It’s also not to say that they don’t miss players like Roquan Smith and Sony Michel. But as a whole, the 2018 Dawgs seem to have found who they are going to be this year, even if they were just taking on Austin Peay. They’re a talented and really physical team that flies around the field with a certain amount of reckless abandonment. That’s especially true on the defense that while it might lack Roquan and Lorenzo Carter, seems much more talented as a whole
We know that the Dawgs have been preparing for this weeks game since the beginning of summer camp. No disrespect to Austin Peay, but UGA has been thinking about South Carolina for a while and the trash talking coming from Columbia probably hasn’t helped. Expect the Dawgs to come flying out of the traps and keep hitting SC with speed in every phase of the game. It certainly sets up for an exciting game in primetime this weekend.
