Tomorrow Georgia football begins SEC play against the South Carolina Gamecocks at 3:30 p.m. on CBS. The Dawgs defeated Austin Peay 45-0 in week one.
Jake Fromm will start for Georgia football. Jake Bentley will start for South Carolina. That’s common knowledge. What may be an unknown factor that could end up changing the offensive flow of the entire game is whether or not freshman phenom dual threat quarterback Justin Fields will play. Many people think the only way we see Fields is if the Dawgs have a big lead. I disagree. I believe we are going to see Fields regardless.
If the Dawgs are dominating South Carolina, we will see Justin Fields in garbage time. That would be just fine with me. I don’t believe that will be the case though. I think this game could be close going late into the 3rd quarter.
I also believe that Kirby and Jim Chaney have a plan to use Fields in the red zone in this scenario. Freshman speedster running back James Cook is suspended for the first half of this game. So imagine this, South Carolina’s defense has chased D’Andre Swift, Elijah Holyfield, Jake Fromm and all of our lightning fast wide receivers for over a half. We are tied up with them and driving. Dawgs are on the 10. In comes Fields at quarterback with James Cook lined up behind him. I don’t believe South Carolina’s defense could stop this.
I have always been part of the crowd who thought that Smart and Chaney always had intentions to use Fields this year in nearly every game. They know he is too great of a talent to redshirt. So there will be specific packages for him in nearly every game. Maybe in every game. The kid is ready to contribute now. It may be a while before he starts, but he could very well help us beat South Carolina tomorrow.
