2: UGA’s offensive line shows it’s worth
Last week, UGA’s offensive line looked a little sluggish. Despite only playing Austin Peay, they were never really able to dominate the interior of the line of scrimmage. That was pretty surprising because it was expected to be a strength of the team this season.
Well, things certainly changed this week. With their starting offensive line playing pretty much throughout the game, the Dawgs dominated South Carolina on the ground. They racked up 271 yards on the ground and continually punished the Gamecocks on run-plays in the second half. Perhaps nothing sums their dominance then Brian Herrians touchdown to make it 41-10. Just look at the blocks these guys throw. I mean good lord.
The Dawgs also had to overcome a major injury. Andrew Thomas hurt his ankle on the first drive of the third quarter. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery and that the injury is just a minor sprain. However, what did the Dawgs do when they lost their best offensive lineman? They brought in a 5-star true freshman in Cade Mays and yes, he looked absolutely nasty.

That wasn’t the best block Mays threw yesterday, it was just the only one I could find on Twitter. Mays looked really good and he wasn’t the only one. All five of the Dawgs offensive linemen had good games. Ben Cleveland and Isaiah Wilson are starting to gel on the right side and that has to be terrifying for defensive coordinators everywhere.
The Dawgs can air it out and at some point, they will. But old-fashioned, smash mouth football is hard to stop when you are this good at it. This was an exhibition of physical dominance that you have to love as a Georgia fan and hate as a rival. How the rest of the SEC East stops this unit is anyone’s guess right now.
