Georgia football defeated Middle Tennessee State 49-7 on Saturday with touchdowns by six different players, and big players by other.

Unlike previous weeks, it wasn’t easy to choose a play of the game for the Dawg’s 49-7 victory over Middle Tennessee. After all, Georgia football scored six touchdowns and had seven plays of at least 20 yards.

But perhaps no play electrified the crowd while also having an impact on the rest of the season as much as Mecole Hardman’s 70-yard punt return for a touchdown. Yes, this is the second-straight week the do-everything star from Elbert County has claimed the Dawn of the Dawg play of the week.

The return happened after head coach Kirby Smart had scolded Hardman for passing up on returning a punt that stopped at the Georgia six-yard-line. Hardman didn’t pass up on the next punt. He swerved and outran defenders, he even broke a tackle on route to the 70-yard score.

The touchdown helped Hardman rack up 111 total yards with two scores Saturday against the Blue Raiders. Hardman now has 312 total yards with four touchdowns in 2018. He continues to make plays that show that his name belongs in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy as well as numerous other post season awards. He’s also a strong candidate for the All-American teams.

Georgia should make Atlanta their second home. dark. Next

As Georgia gets into SEC play, more of the offense will be centered around Hardman. He’s yet to do much on end arounds or in the “Wild Dawg” formation. His one carry so far this season was a backwards screen pass against South Carolina in which he gained 30 yards. Georgia plays Missouri this week, Hardman had his coming out party against the Tigers last year with 172 total yards and two touchdowns.
