Georgia football sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Holloman caught three passes for 90 yards with one touchdown Saturday against Middle Tennessee.

While everyone enters a new season excited about which freshman from the most recent signing class will excel, I tend to be partial to the sophomores and juniors who were major parts of previous classes, but were yet to make an impact for Georgia football.

These players are often forgotten about until they have their coming out parties, as the new recruits gather all of the hype and attention. For me, it’s exciting to see those players who had quiet freshmen seasons, emerge as stars later on.

Three games into the 2018 season, Jeremiah Holloman appears to be one of the first of those players to emerge after safety Richard LeCounte III. After making just one catch last year for seven yards, Holloman already has five receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown this year. His yardage is second on the team behind Mecole Hardman, and his catches are fourth.

Holloman had the first big game of his career this past Saturday against Middle Tennessee State. He led the team with three catches for 90 yards and a touchdown. His longest play was a 66-yard catch from Jake Fromm where he shielded the ball from a receiver on his back.

Since he committed to Georgia back in December of 2016, I’ve been anxious to see Holloman play. The Bulldog’s receiving situation was a mess back then and leading receiver Isaiah Mckenzie left after the season. Knowing the wide receiver ranked as the no. 125 player in the nation was coming to Georgia gave me optimism for Georgia’s passing game going forward.

Of course, Holloman didn’t have a big role in last year’s team. Instead Terry Godwin and Javon Wins had fantastic seasons, while Hardman had a breakout season. But with Wins in the NFL and Godwin starting the year slow because of an injury, the Bulldog Nation should be proud of how hard Holloman has worked to become one of the team’s leading receivers.

Next. Georgia, Auburn and the College football Mecca of Atlanta. dark

Other players from the 2017 class who are yet to step up for the Bulldogs are Deangelo Gibbs, Netori Johnson, Robert Beal, Mark Webb, Jaden Hunter, Tray Bishop, Malik Herring, Nate McBride and William Poole III. each were ranked inside 247 Sports’ top 200 that year. But those players are just sophomores and redshirt freshmen. There’s still plenty of time for them to climb the depth chart. Just don’t forget their names. Whatever success they have in the future shouldn’t come as a surprise.
