Georgia Football: report card for the Dawgs win over Middle Tennessee
The Georgia Football team got another easy win on Saturday against Middle Tennessee by a score of 49-7. How did the Dawgs grade in this game?
Offense: A+
The offensive performance on Saturday was business as usual. Georgia football put up 223 yards passing and 261 yards rushing for a total offensive output of 484 yards.
Jake Fromm was efficient as always as he completed 10 of 12 passes for 128 yards and three touchdowns. Justin Fields also threw a touchdown pass and ran for one late in the second quarter.
The rushing attack again was very dominant in this game. Elijah Holyfield led the way with 100 yards for the Dawgs. Brian Herrien and James Cook also got five carries each in relief duty. The highlight of the running game was receiver Tyler Simmons’ 56-yard touchdown run on an end around play.
Georgia continues to have a very consistent offensive philosophy: efficiency in the passing game and dominance in the running game. That shouldn’t be a problem in the Dawgs’ next game against a mediocre Missouri defense.
Defense: A-
Georgia’s defense gave up 288 yards of total offense in this game. While that may seem alarming, the defense only gave up seven points and was also able to force two turnovers. Deandre Baker had another interception in this game as he continues to bolster his case as being the best corner in the country.
Much like the Austin Peay game, we saw many players rotate in and out for the Dawgs on this side of the ball. That allowed for many freshmen and other reserve players to gain some experience that could aid in overall player development.
Georgia’s secondary will be heavily challenged this weekend when the team travels on the road to play Missouri. Missouri quarterback Drew Lock is no joke and he can make any throw on the field if given time to do so. We’ll see if the young Georgia secondary is up to the task.
Special Teams: A+
Special teams was again an area of strength for Georgia on Saturday. Mecole Hardman showed off his speed an elusiveness as he returned a punt for a touchdown.
Rodrigo Blankenship continues his perfection in the kicking game. This season he has made every field goal and extra point he’s attempted. Additionally, every single kickoff he’s had has gone for a touchback.
Freshman punter Jake Camarda had another solid game as he averaged 46 yards per punt on three kicks. I don’t expect Georgia to have any special teams issues this season.
