There’s still a lot of room to grow:

Despite all the platitudes and becoming the number 2 team in the country, this Georgia team remains a work in progress. The coaches are still figuring out how to use their QB’s in the right way. The middle linebackers are limited and that leaves a big hole in the middle of the field which is not something elite teams do. We’re yet to see the offensive line reach it’s potential.

All of which means that as good as Georgia are right now, they’re not where they need to be yet. They aren’t going to beat Alabama, Clemson or Ohio State playing the way that they are at the moment. Teams like that are going to require the Dawgs becoming more consistent on offense and defense. It’s also going to mean that Georgia needs to do something to develop a pass rush.

Fortunately, it’s still very early in the season and the Dawgs are still young. There are a few veterans on this team but the vast majority of the players we talk about are underclassmen. They are still developing and looking to get better. It takes time and requires some patience from the fans, but you can clearly see how good this Georgia team could become if things break right this season.

We’ve come an awfully long way since the dark days of 2016 and a shocking loss to Vanderbilt. There’s a long way to go this season, starting with going to Missouri and beating an explosive offense this weekend. But the future couldn’t look brighter than it does after three weeks. Right now, this team is exactly where Kirby Smart wants it to be.
