The Georgia football defense will be tested this week by Missouri quarterback Drew Lock. Can the Dawgs get another road SEC win against the Tigers?
There were two quarterbacks in 2017 that had success against Georgia’s defense. One of those was Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield. The other was Missouri quarterback Drew Lock.
Lock will now face Georgia football for the fourth time in his career on Saturday. He is winless in his three previous starts against the Dawgs. He did, however, have a solid game against Georgia’s defense last year.
The Missouri quarterback threw for more than 250 yards and four touchdowns last season against the Dawgs in Athens. Three of those touchdowns came in the first half which kept the game closer than most people would have liked early on.
Georgia eventually won that game 53-28 thanks to an explosive offensive performance against Missouri’s mediocre defense.
Expect more of the same for this season’s game between the Dawgs and the Tigers. Lock and his talented receiving corps will definitely move the ball down the field some early in this game against Georgia. However, I expect Kirby Smart and his staff to make key halftime adjustments to shut Lock down much like what happened in the 2017 game.
Missouri’s defense gives up a lot of points. Georgia’s talent on offense will overpower and dominate the Tigers in this game which should give the team a nice cushion even if Lock has some success in the passing game.
This win may not be as easy as the first three games of 2018, but Georgia won’t have any problems taking care of business against Missouri on the road this season.
Prediction: Georgia 41, Missouri 21
Georgia and Missouri play on Saturday at Noon (ET) on ESPN.
