Georgia football defeated Missouri on the road 43-29. The Dawgs needed touchdowns on defense and special teams for breathing room.

You alright Georgia fans? The Dawgs survived a scare in Columbia, Missouri to defeat the Tigers 43-29. That 14-point cushion is from touchdowns scored by the defense and special teams. Tyson Campbell returned a fumble to the end zone for the Dawgs only score in the first quarter. But the biggest play of the game was the blocked punt/touchdown by Eric Stokes.

Georgia football had a slim 13-7 lead when the defense forced a three-and-out deep in Missouri territory. In fact, Stokes broke up a pass in lock-tight coverage on third down to force the punt. Before you could even finish praising Stokes’ coverage on that play, he was blocking a punt and jogging into the end zone for a touchdown.

It was the first time all year that the Dawgs had aggressively gone after the punter. Six players broke through the line without being touched, and Stokes had a clean route to the punter. Stokes got in front of him as soon as the ball left his foot. He took it to the chest and got a great bounce. The rest was fairly easy for Stokes.

After that, the Dawgs offense began adding to the highlight film. In the second half. Jake Fromm completed three touchdown passes to three receivers. His first was a 33 yarder to Riley Ridley, followed by a 61-yard catch and run by Jeremiah Holloman. He finished with a 54-yard pass to a wide open Mecole Hardman.

The defense struggled in the second half, but they hunkered down with two turnovers on downs. Those stops preserved the cushion provided by Stokes’ and Campbell’s touchdowns and allowed Georgia to escape Missouri with a 43-29 victory. The Dawgs improve to 2-0 in SEC play.
