Georgia Football goes into the game this week against Tennessee as the favourite but they don’t have the advantage in every phase of the game.
When Georgia takes on Tennessee this weekend, they will be heavy favourites. However, the Dawgs do not have the best players at every single position. The Vols do have some talent as well, even with the dumpster fire that Butch Jones has left behind. So here are the key matchups that will decide the game this week. These will decide who wins and loses the game this week.
UGA’s passing attack vs Tennessee:
The Vols were torched by Will Grier to start the season. Seriously, they were eaten alive. Grier threw for 429 yards and 5 touchdowns in the first game of the season. They also allowed Felipe Franks to throw 3 touchdowns on them. I can’t say I ever thought I would type that Felipe Franks threw three touchdowns against anyone so you could say the Vols are bad in the secondary.
To me, this might be the biggest mismatch of the entire game. Georgia has the weapons to gash a weak Tennessee secondary. It also has the QB’s to sling the ball around with the best of them. Jake Fromm started slowly last week for the second time this season. However, once he got comfortable, the quickly threw for three touchdowns and took the game away from Missouri. This week he will be a friendly environment and looking to make up for last weeks mistakes.
UGA has so many receiving weapons, it’s going to be a question of who wants the ball. Jeremiah Holloman has stepped up the past couple of weeks and looks like a real weapon. Mecole Hardman is fast becoming the best receiver UGA has had since AJ Green and Riley Ridley has stepped in and filled Javon Wims’ shoes very nicely. I haven’t even mentioned Terry Godwin or Demetris Robertson, both of whom are waiting in the wings to take off when ready.
This could be a game where UGA look to light up the scoreboard early. Fromm will want to impress early after his two slow starts. Kirby Smart will also want to give Justin Fields some more snaps and experience after he barely saw the field last week. Both of them should add up to trouble for Tennessee who really doesn’t have the players to stay with UGA’s receivers.
Advantage: Georgia, by A LOT
