Overall edge:
It’s not surprising to see that Georgia has the edge in most departments in this game. The one area that the Vols might potentially win at is in their running game but we’ll have to wait and see.
This game has been a big-time rivalry for many years but it’s remarkable how different both of these programs look right now. Kirby Smart is building a juggernaut in Athens where good players come off the bench when needed and step up. Jeremy Pruitt has just inherited a weak team that needs some serious work after the debacle that was Butch Jones. The Vols simply don’t have the talent or the culture to be able to compete with Georgia right now. It’s sad, but this rivalry has become very one-sided.
That won’t last forever. Tennessee has a great history and Pruitt can recruit. But in the meantime, these matchups are going to be a little boring. UGA has the advantage across the board due to a huge talent disparity. This weekend will likely be a bit of a beatdown with Kirby Smart expecting his team to bounce back after last weeks disappointing win over Missouri.
The Dawgs have the advantage across the board this week. They’ve got the better offense, defense and special teams. That won’t always be the case this season. Florida, LSU and Auburn are still on the scedule and all of them have some strong units that could cause UGA issues. But for this week at least, the Dawgs will comortably be the best team on the field.
