Georgia Football: Quick Takeaways from the Tennessee game
Rodrigo Blankenship is ridiculous:
I’m pretty sure nobody who isn’t a Georgia fan can understand why Dawg fans love Rodrigo so much. Not only is he our favorite spectacled football player, but he also happens to have transformed himself from walk-on freshman to All-American level kicker in basically a year. His ability to make pretty much any field goal gives Kirby Smart a level of confidence few coaches in college football have.
Well, Hot-Rod did something even he probably never thought he would today. Check out perhaps the oddest, best extra point kick you will ever see:
I still don’t entirely understand how on earth he did that. Add it to the list of insane things we have now seen Blankenship do at Georgia. Make a game-winning field goal in South Bend and then announce you’re on scholarship, kick a 55-yarder in the Rose Bowl seconds before halftime, keep the Dawgs in the national championship game and basically kick every single kickoff out for a touchback. Yep, add ‘somehow kick a botched snap over for an extra point with no run-up’ to that list. Simply awesome.
In the grand scheme of things, it didn’t matter but I wanted to give Blankenship a shoutout. Rarely do kickers get mentioned unless they do something wrong and he’s become one of the very best at what he does. That moment was one of the highlights of the game for me and it’ll be something Dawg fans chat about around the water-cooler on Monday. Hats off Hot-Rod, that was special.
