Georgia Football suffered their first loss of the season when they were defeated 36-16 by the LSU Tigers in Death Valley.
It’s safe to say that didn’t go the way we expected. The Georgia Football team had their worst performance in some time today as they limped to a 36-16 defeat to LSU in Baton Rouge. The Tigers came out the gates screaming and after taking an early lead, never really let up.
The first half was quite possibly the worst performance the Dawgs had put together all year. Jake Fromm struggled to throw the ball and completed only two of 10 passes for twenty yards. The Dawgs moved the ball on the ground on one drive but got zero points from it after Kirby Smart decided to try a fake field goal and have Rod Blankenship run it in from 12 yards out.
Having come out of the second half down 16-0, the Dawgs did improve in the second half. Jake Fromm looked sharper and they brought the game to within 10 points after the third quarter thanks to a touchdown drive and a field goal. However, at that point, the UGA defense which had been on the field an awful lot eventually broke and conceded a long 86-yard drive to the Tigers which essentially ended the game. Jake Fromm would then throw two interceptions that would essentially ice the game.
It was a disappointing performance across the board from the team. The offense looked stagnant and struggled to move the ball. The defense broke down and gave up big plays consistently and really struggled whenever LSU did the hurry up offense. Even on special teams, Georgia struggled. There was the botched fake field goal, a fumble by Mecole Hardman on a kickoff return and several terrible punts from freshmen Jake Camarda.
In short, the Dawgs played about as badly as they could have done and were punished by a desperate team the seriously needed the win. Despite that, all is not lost. Georgia still has the whole season ahead of it and two weeks to stew on this result before taking on Florida in a huge game. There’s still an SEC title and a CFP spot to play for and you just know that Kirby Smart will not let his team play like this again for the rest of the season.
