Why the loss to LSU was exactly what Georgia Football needs

Georgia Football suffered a pretty bad loss to LSU today, but despite the disappointment, the result was exactly what this team needed.

I can already see the anger in some of your faces. If there is one thing that Twitter showed me today, its that a lot of Georgia Football fans are not in a good place after today’s loss. The fury and fire that was being shot out all over social media was a little much for my tastes. I had no idea that so many fans despised their team and the players they cheer for quite so much. Sarcasm aside, I get that losing hurts, but what happened in Baton Rouge today wasn’t actually a bad thing for this 2018 team. In fact, bear with me as I go as far as to say that it’s exactly what Kirby Smart and his coaches needed.

This team is still not quite there

Go back and watch the previous six games. Georgia is a really good football team. I don’t know if they’re at the same level as Alabama right now, but that’s not due to a lack of talent. This group is loaded all over the field and they have special players in every position unit. The problem hasn’t been their talent, it’s been their focus. Even against South Carolina, they didn’t need to play a complete game to blow out what was then a ranked rival team. The players on this UGA team have been so good, they were able to sleepwalk their way to a number two ranking.

That isn’t easy people. You have to be pretty damn good to win in South Carolina and Missouri while not really trying. Unfortunately, That was never going to work this week. You don’t go into Death Valley and walk out with a win if you don’t play well. You also don’t win a Natty that way and with Kirby Smart in Athens, that’s the goal each and every year. The problem is that UGA is young pretty much across the board and they are used to winning. It’s become ingrained in them that they are going to be better than their opponent even if they don’t try.

That wasn’t the case today. Georgia was the most talented team on the field, but they lost by 20 points. Don’t believe the talking heads out there looking for easy clicks, it didn’t happen because LSU’s coaches ‘out schemed’ Georgia. It wasn’t because the Dawgs game plan was terrible and their coaches all need to be lined up and shot. That’s a lazy answer that always gets thrown around by people looking for somebody easy to blame.

No, the Dawgs lost for the very same reason they lost last November in Auburn. They didn’t play well. It’s so incredibly simple, but for some reason, some people aren’t able to say it. Georgia has talent all over the field, but today, in those four quarters of football, pretty much every single player had a bad day. Jake Fromm looked lost, Andrew Thomas gave up a sack on a play he makes 99 times out of 100, Mecole Hardman fumbled on a stupid return and had a bad drop, JR Reed was out of position twice and both times LSU made 50+ yard plays, Tyson Campbell had the worst start of his young career. I could go on and on but you get the picture.
