The whole season, the Georgia Football team had their way with opponents until they faced LSU. Now this week, the team looks focused to take on Florida.

Nobody likes to lose. That’s always been the case at any big-time college football program. Things are no different with the Georgia Football team who had to pick themselves up after a poor loss to LSU. With that loss now firmly in the rear mirror, the Dawgs go to Jacksonville this weekend for the biggest game of the season so far. They take on a top 10 ranked Florida Gators team in a match that will decide who wins the SEC East. The stakes couldn’t be any higher and you can see that from UGA’s coaches and players so far.

Things do look different this week. Kirby Smart is laser-focused as always, but it seems like that loss seems to have helped him in some way. It’s given him issues to point to and motivation to use with his players. They can’t sleepwalk through this game the way they did against the Tigers. They’ve had a week to get healthy and recover mentally from what happened. It’s now time for the players to step up like they did last year and win their biggest rivalry.

The biggest difference between UGA and Florida right now isn’t the colors of their uniforms. It’s their attitudes going into this game. The Gators have already started talking trash and we can expect plenty more of that as the week goes on. We’ll hear lots of comments about how mean and angry they are and how badly they’re going to ‘mess up’ UGA when the game finally arrives. Georgia players, on the other hand, are the opposite. They’re calm and focused on what they need to do this week to dominate their rival. I know what approach I would like my team to have. Fortunately, it’s the one the players in red are taking.

Next. Elijah Holyfield will be key this week. dark

A calm demeanor does not guarantee a win for the Dawgs. That being said, I think it’s a good start and it’s a sign that the program isn’t panicking like some fans after the loss in Death Valley. Georgia has the talent to put together a great performance and bury the Gators this week. If they can reach their potential, they’ll do just that and they’ll start to turn around the narrative of a game that has historically gone against the Dawgs. Mark Richt was never able to get over the ‘Florida hump’. Now in year three, Kirby Smart will want to get a winning record against UGA’s biggest rival and never let it go.
