Georgia football defeated Kentucky Saturday to clinch the SEC Eastern Division Championship. The Bulldogs can lock up a playoff berth with four more wins.

No more waiting, no more mystery, the 2018 Georgia football team is heading to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to play Alabama for the SEC Championship. The Dawgs clinched the spot in Atlanta with an impressive 34-17 win over then no. 9 Kentucky.

Georgia had A-plus performances from several players, and a few monumental games by players having to fill in for injured starters. Here are the biggest players from the victory over the Wildcats.

D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield

For the first time since the Rose Bowl, Georgia had two runners surpass 100 yards in a game. D’Andre Swift showed just how banged up he was earlier in the year as he looks like a whole new running back now. Elijah Holyfield remains one of the toughest backs in the SEC.

Swift rushed for 156 yards on 16 carries with a pair of touchdowns. He also had 18 receiving yards. Both scores will be on his career highlight film. His first score featured a pair of devastating cuts that embarrassed two Kentucky defenders. He ran 20 more yards and even went through two defenders for the score. His last touchdown was a bit more patient. He ran up the middle and waited on a crease to form. When it did, no defenders was fast enough to catch him.

Holyfield’s day was mostly highlight free besides one 30-yard run, but that’s his style. He’s a grinder, impossible to take down at the line of scrimmage. I love when opposing fans cheer when he gets hit at the line, only to see him push forward for a good gain as the cheers move over to the Georgia side.

The Swift/Holyfield duo is quickly cementing their names among the best running back duos in school history. With duos like Chubb/Michel, Gurshall, Sinkwich/Trippi, Hampton/Tate, etc. being mentioned in the same breath as those tandems is an accomplishment in itself.

Jake Fromm

Jake Fromm continues to improve from his rough day in Baton Rouge. His stats against Kentucky won’t wow anybody, but he continues to lead and be a stalwart on a team that has already clinched one championship.
