Georgia Football: Score prediction vs. Auburn Tigers
A week after clinching the SEC East, Georgia Football returns home to Athens to face Auburn. Can the Dawgs keep their recently found momentum going?
Kirby Smart has his Georgia Bulldogs flying high after a dominating 34-17 win against Kentucky last week. With that victory, Georgia clinched the SEC East division title for the second straight season.
While winning the East is certainly a goal for Georgia every year, this season is far from over. The Dawgs cannot lose another regular season game if the team wants an opportunity to get into the College Football Playoff for a second straight season.
Auburn fans would love nothing more if the Tigers were able to come to Athens this weekend and spoil Georgia’s season. Despite being 6-3 this season, Auburn still has a very talented roster that in my opinion has just vastly underachieved this year. If Georgia doesn’t take Auburn seriously, an upset in this game is definitely possible.
However, I fully expect Kirby Smart and his staff to have a perfect game plan to make sure an upset doesn’t happen in this game. It seems like an eternity since Georgia has played a game at home in Athens so you can bet that the fan base and players are fired up to have Sanford Stadium rocking once again.
Auburn’s run defense is not as stout as it was last season and Georgia will take advantage of it. Expect a full dose of Elijah Holyfield and the red-hot D’Andre Swift as Georgia will look to establish the run early and often. Jake Fromm will certainly get his share of work in the passing game as well. The Dawgs will have to be balanced on offense to beat Auburn.
Auburn will hang around in this game during the first half. But Georgia will do what it usually does against SEC teams: physically wear the opponent down in the second half and come away with an easy win on the scoreboard.
Prediction: Georgia 30, Auburn 17
Georgia and Auburn square off on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on ESPN.
