Georgia Football won a big victory over U Mass this weekend and we started to see some talented young players fill specific roles for this team.

The Dawgs got a big win over an outmatched opponent this week. But it wasn’t the 66 points that they scored that left the best impression for most Georgia Football fans. We’re starting to see several players from the heralded 2018 recruiting class make their mark. Now these guys aren’t starting yet, but it’s clear that the coaches are using specific packages to get them onto the field and they’re all having an impact. Here are 5 guys who are getting better each week and very clearly look like they’re going to have huge futures in Athens.

Justin Fields QB:

I know, I know it was just U Mass. But boy did Justin Fields look good! If you’re a Georgia fan, it’s unlikely that any player made you feel better this past weekend that Fields who clearly showed flashes of the talent we’ve all heard about. We’ve seen Fields run the ball but this was really the first week where we got to truly see his arm. And. What. An. Arm:

Fields passed the ball a bit in other games earlier this season, but this was really the first time where we saw him go out and run the offense with confidence. He’s made some big strides from the beginning of the season and it’s clear that he’s now much more comfortable with the playbook. Whether it’s running the ball or passing, Fields has rare talent and there are just not many people who can do what he does on the field every week. His stats would have been even better if Demetris Robertson caught a 46 yard bomb that hit him in the hands but you can’t complain too much about accounting for 221 yards and 3 TDs.

Now, despite all of that praise, he remains a work in progress. He made a couple of decisions that I didn’t love and he still tucks and runs a little too early. He’s also not at the same point Jake Fromm is when it comes to knowing the offense and checking into different plays. But he’s getting better and improving and that’s really what you want to see from a young QB. Right now, he’s one of the most exciting and talented young QB’s in the game but you can clearly see that one day, this guy is going to be one of the greats.
