Georgia football goes into the SEC title game against Alabama knowing that their offensive line will face the greatest test against a star-studded defensive front.

If there is one position unit that has exceeded expectations this season, its the offensive line. Despite dealing with repeated injuries, Georgia football has put together consistently good games on offense due to its utter domination at the line of scrimmage. That’s good because no unit is going to have more to deal with this game going against Bama. The Tide have one of the best defensive lines in the country and they bring a tremendous amount of talent and experience to Atlanta.

We all remember how dominant Raekwon Davis was last season in the national championship game. Well, he might not even be the best player on this defensive line this year. Quinnen Williams is looking like a potential top 10 pick right now and he’s been tearing up offensive game plans all year. The DT has 7 sacks this season, more than any player on UGA’s roster and he’s doing that from the inside rush position. That DL also boasts Isaiah Buggs who has nearly double digit sacks himself this year.

Then there is the linebacking corp that frankly, looks ridiculous. Mack Wilson might well be the best inside linebacker in the country this season and he’s stuffing the run and playing well in coverage. Then off the edges, Anfernee Jennings and Dylan Moses are both lethal and can give offensive tackles absolute fits. Throw in the fact that they play in Nick Saban’s defense and you have a unit that was built to destroy offensive lines.

In short, the Dawgs are going to be going up against five potential 1st round picks this Saturday and all of them are going to be hunting the QB. That’s a tall ask for anyone but I really do believe that is anbody can stop Bama this year, it’s going to be this Georgia offensive line. These guys have delivered time and again this season and despite injuries, they’ve gotten better each and every week.

It’s not like they’ve just played scrubs every week either. This unit dominated a Florida pass rush that everyone was raving about going into the game. They destoyed a Kentucky defensive front that was ranked as one of the best in the country before running all over an Auburn defense that includes several top NFL picks. We’ve seen guys like Andrew Thomas, Isaiah Wilson, and Lamont Gaillard step up against the best teams they have played this year. We’ve also seen young guys like Cade Mays and Trey Hill show that they aren’t afraid of anyone and impose their will against upperclassmen who will play at the next level.

This is a talented Georgia offensive line and it’s going to need to be at it’s best this week if the Dawgs are to stand a chance. There’s a reason this Bama team opens up as a 13 point favorite right now. Nobody thinks the Dawgs stand a chance but if they are going to shock the world, it’s going to happen in the trenches where so far, they haven’t disappointed. It’s a tall task, but if any unit can get UGA the upset it’s these guys. I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but I know damn sure they’re going to try.
