When the Georgia football team takes on Alabama in the SEC title game, they will be playing in the only matchup this weekend that really matters.

I love it when fans of other conferences complain about the SEC. When Alabama was given a favorable call despite not being a conference champion last season, we ended up with two SEC teams playing for the national championship. Before this year started, fans from all over the country were chirping up about how average the conference was compared to others. There really was a belief in some places that other conferences could compete with the SEC.

Fast forward 13 weeks and year, how about no. The ACC that everyone seemed to think was awesome a few years ago is a dumpster fire. Clemson has gone undefeated but they have faced only two ranked teams, Boston College and NC State. Neither of them kept their ranking as the season ended and now the Tigers face a 5-loss Pittsburg team for the ACC title. This game is going to be so one-sided it’s ridiculous. How a conference can send someone as bad a Pitt to a title game would be a huge black eye for a conference were it not for the fact that the ACC is hardly going to be the only matchup like this.

The Big 10 that also get a lot of hype for the likes of Ohio State and Michigan but they also have an easy conference title game. The Buckeyes take on a pretty poor Northwestern team that few expect to put up much of a fight. Things aren’t much better in the Pac-12 where Washington and Utah both have three losses. Pretty much the only game out there that might be competitive other than the SEC is the Big-12 where Oklahoma take on their big rival in Texas. But even that might be a letdown because the Longhorns have 3 losses themselves.

Next. UGA is in the same weight class as Bama. dark

In short, there is a reason that all eyes are on Atlanta tomorrow. The SEC title game really is the only one that matters this weekend. Neither of these teams can guarantee themselves a spot in the upcoming CFP and there is little doubt that both are top 4 teams in terms of talent and coaching. It’s why Georgia has a chance to go down in history if they can win and even if they don’t, the future is brighter than many outside of the SEC would like to admit.
