Georgia football pushes for strong recruiting close to 2018
By Tyler Cloud
Miami Southridge HS (Homestead, FL) 4-star cornerback Tyrique Stevenson – #38 Overall, #4 cornerback
The Dawgs are once again trying to dip into south Florida for an elite defensive back. They were able to pull Tyson Campbell out of the Miami area last cycle, but Stevenson is another battle altogether. Miami and Florida look to be the main competition here as the defender, who may very well earn a fifth star from recruiting services soon, is set to announce on January 5th.
Huntington HS (Huntington, WV) 5-star offensive tackle Darnell Wright – #10 overall, #1 offensive tackle
Wright is different from every other player on this list in that he will not sign until February. In the meantime, Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama are considered to be the front-runners for the West Virginia mammoth. Wright has been to Tennessee the most of his three finalists, but plans to visit Georgia for the first time this weekend.
Whether the Dawgs land all of these targets and more remains to be seen. What is abundantly clear is that Alabama and Georgia are rapidly separating themselves from the rest of college football from a talent standpoint. As great as that sounds, Dawg Nation’s desire is to separate themselves from the Tide between the white lines. But to win on the first Saturday in December, the third Wednesday must also be won. Alabama won the last chapter on the field. Let’s see who wins over more families in living rooms.
Get used to this folks, these two teams will see each other pretty often over the next decade. It’s safe to say Christmas cards won’t be exchanged.
