Georgia football early signing day tracker
Our annual signing day tracker keeps you updated with the latest happenings on what is likely to be a crazy day.
4.35pm
That’s likely it for today. Dean signing means that the Dawgs are finished for the early siging peiod. now they just have to wait a few weeks to see if they can get commitments from Tyreke Stevenson and Jadon Haselwood on January 5th.
We’ll be writing some stuff about the 2019 class over the next few days but thanks for sticking with us today and Goooooo Dawgs!
4.30pm:
Nakobe dean is official. There will be no backroom, last miute Roquan Smith shenanigans happening with UGA’s latest inside linebacker. The 5-star has submitted his letter of intent and is locked into the Bulldogs!
3.25pm
It’s hard not to give Kirby Smart credit for the day UGA has had. Yes, Alabama won two key battles but Smart got the guy this team needed the most in Dean. Sanders and OT Evan Neal are 5-stars for a reason and will be good at Bama. But what Georgia desperately needs is help in the middle of their linebacking corp and Dean brings that alongside Rian Davis and Trezman Marshall.
Smart also quietly signed five 5-star players today, that’s two more than his mentor Nick Saban. Not exactly a bad haul considering the circumstances he found himself in less than 48 hours ago. Smart and his coaches deserve a tonne of credit for keeping their heads down despite the ridiculous media circus that was sprung on them on Monday.
2.55pm
Get caught up in a meeting and I miss the whole damn thing! Nakobe Dean is a DAWGGGGGGG. Wow, unbelievable win for Kirby Smart there when most were saying that he was expecting to stay home. Dean brings great speed and instincts the position to alongside the size and thump of Trezman Marshall and Rian Davis. What a defensive class Kirby has brought in!
1.55pm:
Nearly time for Nakobe Dean… Can Kirby get one big win out of today against his former boss Nick Saban…
1.20pm
No Sanders for Georgia. The nation’s top running back this season picks Alabama over the Dawgs and Florida. It likely means alabama will once again sign the nations top overall recruiting class although Georgia isn’t that far behind right now in second place.
12.57pm
Dwan Mathis is officially a Dawg. When I woke up, I thought was worried we’d have to settle for a no-name QB. Instead, we poached one of the top guys this class from none other than Ohio State. Hell of a job there Kirby, hell of a job.
Trey Sanders decision coming along shortly… everyone is saying Bama… crapppppppp
12.33pm
Trezman Marshall officially joins the class as well. Marshall committed to Georgia a while ago but was seriously considering other schools until this past weekends visit. He’s a freakish athlete that is brimming with potential. Having played QB for much of his high school career, he’s a project but not many 230lb men move as fluidly as him. His arrival is another bolster for an MLB position that was a problem for Georgia this year. Not anymore with the likes of Marshall joining Channing Tindall, Quay Walker and Rian Davis, not to mention Monty Rice.
Fun fact, Marshall is higher ranked than every single one of Florida’s current commits despite being only 8th in UGA’s class right now. But Dan Mullen is awesome apparently…
11.54am:
We’re just over an hour away from Trey Sanders decision. The nations number one running back is picking between UGA, Alabama and Florida. Some in our staff feel good about this one but others feel that his family ties to the Florida program might be too much to overcome. You can never underestimate Nick saban in a situation like this too so who really knows. We’ll find out where he chooses to play soon.
10.45am:
Levis Cine officially joins this class. One of the top-ranked safeties in this class, Cine is another player that Smart has pulled from out of state, this time from Texas. This guy would be a feature in 99% of classes outside of UGA, he’s incredibly talented.
10.30am:
Rian Davis is in the books. One of the most talented linebackers in this class, Davis injured his knee and so sat out the last half of his senior season. That being said, the guy is a rare ralent and will help build some talented depth early in Athens.
10.15am:
Don’t underestimate how important it was to see Nolan Smith, Travon Walker and Dominick Blaylock all get their paperwork in 1st thing. Those three five stars were all close to Fields yet despite the situation, were the first ones to officially commit to UGA. That sent a very clear message to every other recruit out there that no matter what happens at QB, Georgia is going to be loaded with talent.
It was a big show of support for the coaching staff and the program in general. Shows really strong character in all of them as well.
10.10am:
I can’t speak more highly of what Kirby and his coaches were able to do here with Mathis. Yes, he’s not a Justin Fields once in a generation talent but to go and flip someone from Ohio State who lives in Michigan less than 2 days after your so-called QB of the future throws your program into turmoil. That’s staggering.
Also, Makiya Tongue’s paperwork is in and he is officially a Dawg. Never heard of him? Don’t worry he’s going to be good. Like really good…
10.05am:
Woooahhhhhh
You can’t keep a good Kirby down. Fresh off the news that Justin Fields is looking to transfer, Smart and company pull of a flip out of absolutely nowhere. Dwan Mathis is a 6ft6 QB prospect that until about 5 minutes ago was committed to Ohio State. Not anymore, the talented signal caller choose UGA at his announcement ceremony:
9am EST:
Good morning Dawg fans! My apologies for being a little later than usual but being on the West Coast now, I just couldn’t get up earlier than 6am!
Quick updates on what has happened so far:
