Georgia Football: The Return of Quarterback Stetson Bennett

Last year, Georgia football lost Stetson Bennett when he transferred to JUCO in search of a scholarship. Bennett returns a year later having succeeded.

Wednesday evening, after most recruits had signed their letters of intent, head coach of the Georgia football team, Kirby Smart, was still working on one more signing. At approximately 6:27p.m. EST, the Bulldogs announced the signing of quarterback Stetson Bennett

You may recognize that name from somewhere. Bennett was UGA’s third string preferred walk-on quarterback for the 2017 season, behind Jake Fromm and Jacob Eason. While only a preferred walk-on, Bennett was thought highly of throughout the team and the coaching staff.

Because of a numbers crunch with scholarships last year, Bennett was not able to receive a scholarship from Georgia. This caused Bennett to transfer to a junior college where he could play and showcase his talents for FBS teams, in hope of securing a scholarship at that level.

Well, last night, Bennett was able to attain a scholarship from Georgia and signed with his former team. This signing, while not traditionally big news, was a huge under the radar signing for Kirby Smart. Here’s why.
