Georgia football: Riley Ridley’s likely farewell game
By the sound of it, tomorrow’s game will likely be Riley Ridley’s last for Georgia football and the Dawgs will need him to be at his best.
Georgia football has found a way to share the ball around a lot this season. Jake Fromm shared the ball a lot and he included a lot of receivers in the gameplan. That being said, throughout the season, his most reliable target was Riley Ridley. Particularly in the end zone, Ridley was one of the most productive receivers Georgia have had in that department since AJ Green. He accounted for 9 touchdowns this season, even better than Javon Wims last year.
Ridley is a junior so he could choose to stay for a final year. That being said, he’s long been expected to make the jump to the next level after 3 seasons. His brother was a first-round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons last season and has done a great job since arriving in Atlanta. Riley doesn’t have the same type of production as a college player but he showed in Athens that he’s ready for the next level.
Calvin’s success will likely hasten his brother’s departure. Riley isn’t going to be a first-round pick but his production, physical traits, and bloodlines should lead to him getting drafted. This isn’t a particularly strong receiver class which could help him get picked sooner than he would in other years. He’s a natural red zone target and should do really well if put in the right position at the next level.
All indications are the tomorrow will be Ridley’s final game for Georgia. His loss will hurt for Jake Fromm but he’s got a great chance to go out strong. Texas doesn’t exactly have a strong pass defense and I fully expect Georgia to throw it around a bit. If he puts together another solid game, Ridley could end up climbing up draft boards before heading to join his brother at the next level.
