Georgia football: quick reactions to stories of Wednesday, January 9
Following “Black Friday” and Jim Cheney’s departure, all Georgia football news has been can’t-miss on Wednesday. Here’s quick reactions of the stories of Wednesday, January 9.
Nine players eligible for redshirts
Dawgs247 released a final Georgia football participation list for the 2018 season. The list includes every player and how many games they appeared in and started. A new NCAA rule introduced for 2018 was that players can appear in as many as four games and still be eligible for a redshirt if they haven’t already been redshirted.
The nine players eligible for a redshirt are freshmen Tommy Bush, Owen Condon, Warren Ericson, John FitzPatrick, Kearis Jackson, Azeez Ojulari, and Divaad Wilson, and sophomores Jaden Hunter and Ameer Speed.
This list is a reminder of the dormant talent we have not yet seen from the last two recruiting classes. Bush, Ericson, Jackson, Ojulari and Wilson are all top 300 prospects from the 2018 class. Not guys who were prepared to play immediately, but guys with obvious talent who could use a year to hone their skills . Bush, Jackson, Ojulari and Wilson will certainly have a chance to earn roles for 2019 with all of the departures at their positions.
Jaden Hunter was also a top 150 player from 2017. He’ll compete with Ojulari and other returning linebackers for the starting spots vacated by seniors Natrez Patrick and D’Andre Walker.
