Tennessee brags about stealing Jim Cheney
Um, okay? Dawgnation’s social media found memes posted by Tennessee’s twitter page bragging about them taking offensive coördinator Jim Cheney from Georgia. That’s really odd because for one, Cheney wasn’t popular among Georgia fans. And two, he wasn’t even popular among Tennessee fans when he was their offensive coördinator at the beginning of the decade.
But neither of those points are what make Tennessee’s bragging so laughable. When Georgia hired Cheney in 2016, it’s because he was a package deal with elite offensive line coach Sam Pittman. But Pittman isn’t following Cheney to Knoxville, he’s staying in Athens and is likely getting a raise with the extra money Georgia now has. Tennessee offered Cheney so much, even talking to Pittman may have been out of their budget.
Basically, Tennessee will likely end up getting the worst of Cheney, while the Dawgs will end up with the best. Sounds like a fair trade right?
