2020 defensive tackle Warren Brinson committed to Georgia football on November 24, but on Tuesday he reopened his recruitment by decommitting.

The Bulldog’s 2020 recruiting class lost one of its four committed players on Tuesday. After spending barely two months as a Georgia football commit, defensive tackle Warren Brinson decommitted. Brinson did not however, close the door on ever recommitting to Georgia, instead saying:

"“UGA will always be one of my top schools, the great relationship my family and I have built with Coach Scott will always remain the same. At the end of this process, I want to make sure that I’ve made the best decision for me and my future. Please respect my decision as this was not an easy choice to make.”"

Brinson, who attends the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, finished his junior season with 27 tackles, seven for a loss with 2.5 sacks. Georgia was the first school to offer him a scholarship on July 31 of last year. Tennessee followed two weeks later, but Alabama sent the 290-pounder a scholarship last week. The influx of offers, especially Alabama, likely opened his eyes to how much interest he would receive from upper echelon programs, and he just wanted to make sure he kept his options open.

Or he wanted to be prepared to not be the best player at his position in Georgia’s recruiting class. 247Sports Composite rates Brinson as a three-star prospect. He’s ranked no. 446 overall and the no. 38 defensive tackle in the nation. Sure he could climb those rankings, and maybe even earn his fourth and fifth stars. But Georgia already has two top notch defensive tackles committed for 2020. Both committed months before Brinson.

Above Brinson was Nazir Stackhouse of Decatur’s Columbia High School. According to 247Sports Composite, he’s a four-star prospect, ranked no. 191 overall and no. 18 out of all defensive tackles nationally. He committed to Georgia all the way back on December 2, 2017.

Beyond Stackhouse is Jamil Burroughs, a McEachern stand out who looks like he could line up at nose guard in the SEC tomorrow. he’s one of those guys who’s already at SEC size. That size is likely factored in his 247Sports Composite ratings. He’s a four-star prospect ranked no. 55 overall and no. 4 out of all defensive tackles, though based on his size, I’d say he moves to nose guard in the 3-4 defense.

Stackhouse isn’t small by any means. He too is a big athlete and he has a whole year to build onto that frame. Their 247Sports profiles say all three are around the same size; between 6-2 and 6-5 inches tall, and between 280 and 290 pounds, with Brinson being the heaviest at 290 and Burroughs the smallest at 280. But one look at each of their photos will lead you to doubt the accuracy of those weights. Maybe Brinson wears his weight differently, but Burroughs and Stackhouse are certainly bigger than him.

Other than a possible collapse in the rankings for Stackhouse and Burroughs, Georgia seems set at defensive tackle in 2020, even if only one of them will actually play the position in college. Decommitments are always big news, but this isn’t anything Georgia can’t recover from. In fact, with two studs already committed at the position, Georgia was going to recover regardless.
