National Signing Day is seven days away. A no. 1 recruiting class may be out of the question, but Georgia football is still after six prospects.

National Signing Day is just one week away. Georgia football already has a fantastic 23-player class ranked no. 2 in America. So, even without some surprises on signing day, Georgia fans should be pleased with the new players coming in this season. But that doesn’t mean the coaches are finished trying to sign players in 2019. Here are the seven players Georgia is going after the hardest.

No. 24 George Pickens

George Pickens is the only five-star the Bulldogs are still going after. Just one problem however, he’s been committed to Auburn for 18 months. New offensive coördinator James Coley and current wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton have recruited him relentlessly over the past few months and he visited Georgia on January 18. He won’t get an official visit from Kirby Smart, but he’s seen and heard from his unit coaches enough to know Georgia wants him, and what Georgia wants from him.

He hasn’t said anything reaffirming his commitment to Auburn, nor has he decommitted. Just three months ago, Auburn fans could have been comfortable that he was a lock. Now, expect to see a Georgia, Tennessee and Miami hat join the Auburn hat on his table on Signing Day.

No. 48 Kaiir Elam

The recruiting battle for Kaiir Elam is another battle among rivals, with Florida and Georgia going back and forth over the coveted cornerback. This battle has seen Elam begin leaning towards Florida when Mel Tucker left Georgia. Then begin turning back to Georgia when Kirby Smart stole the Gators defensive backs coach Charlton Warren.

The Gators responded with a fantastic hire to replace Warren and now the battle is neck-and-neck. Both programs have thrown the sink at Elam with massive in-house visits in the last week. I believe he’s a Dawg. Word was he really wanted to play for Smart and Tucker, but Tucker leaving threw a small wrench into things. Smart stealing Elam’s primary recruiter from Florida was a brilliant move. But ultimately, if Elam wants to play for Smart, he’s not going to settle on Dan Mullen.

No. 55 Nick Cross

Elam isn’t the only defensive back Georgia is hoping to sign next Wednesday. Tomorrow, Nick Cross, one of the best safeties in America will visit Georgia, before heading to Penn State. Both schools are trying to pry him away from his Florida State commitment. One factor going against Georgia in this process is that he’s visiting Georgia alone and his family will be with him in Happy Valley.

No. 90 Mark Anthony Richards

The last top 100 player the Bulldogs are going after and his decision is between a ton of schools. Mark Anthony Richards not committed to anybody. Georgia coaches are going to West palm Beach to visit the athlete tomorrow. His decision will come down to Florida, Auburn, Miami, Georgia and Penn State and he’s not in any hurry to make that decision. We’ll all find out at the same time on National Signing Day when he signs his Letter of Intent.

No. 217 Jonathan Mingo

Georgia isn’t just looking to steal a receiver from Auburn, the Bulldogs are also after Ole Miss commit Jonathan Mingo. But he is still just mulling whether he’ll visit Athens before signing day. If he doesn’t come this weekend, consider him out of our short list.

No. 1013 Brett Seither

Tight end is thin on Georgia’s roster right now and the coaches are trying to get it sewn up quickly with Brett Seither (and Tennessee grad-transfer Eli Wolf). The Bulldogs do still have rising senior Charlie Woerner, redshirt freshman John FitzPatrick and signee Ryland Goede, but Goede is coming off an ACL injury so he might be slowed down this season.

Georgia didn’t begin recruiting him until january 10, but right now, his decision seems to be between the Dawgs and Alabama. Georgia really needs another tight end, coaches just need to stress that need to him. Forget about the stars. He will get opportunities to play early.
