Georgia football lost three receivers to the NFL draft after this past season but that should give Demetris Robertson the chance to shine in 2019.

I know that a lot of Georgia football fans are worried about wide receiver in 2019. Losing their three top receivers last season Riley Ridley, Terry Godwin and Mecole Hardman have scared some people. The Dawgs have also lost Issac Nauta who was another big weapon in the passing game last year. while I understand their concerns, there is one player on the UGA roster who I think could fill those voids in a very big well.

People already seem to have forgotten just how good Demetris Robertson was in 2016. In his true freshman season in the Pac-12, Robertson lit up defensive secondaries and accounted for just less than 800 yards and 8 touchdowns. Those numbers would be better than any receiver UGA has had since AJ Green. Robertson did that as an 18-year-old. Think what he could do now that he’s entering his Junior season.

Robertson has had his issues since that year. In 2017 he was injured for most of the season and consequently, he missed a lot of time in his development. He then decided to transfer to UGA to be closer to home but he arrived late in the summer. He and Kirby Smart have been honest about just how far away he was from being ready to play at the level UGA will expect. With a full year under his belt to learn the system and get into top shape, this guy could be one of the best receivers in the league next year.

Next. Is James Cook another name to watch in 2019?. dark

I understand that this is a lot to put on a guy who did not have a single catch in 2018. That being said, I really do think that Robertson could be the breakout player for UGA this season. He’s one of the most talented players on the roster in 2019 and if he can even come close to that potential, the Dawgs could have one of the most explosive passing games we have seen in a very long time.
