Georgia football is always in the hunt for elite running backs. One of the best in the 2020 class hails from Maryland, but is very interested in Georgia.

If you’re someone who pays attention to patterns and trends, you’re probably confident that Georgia football will sign two good running backs in 2020. That’s been the pattern since signing Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall in 2012. So which two backs will the Bulldogs sign this time around? One of the names to keep an eye on is Hyattsville, Md. prospect MarShawn Lloyd.

Leading the backfield at DeMatha Catholic, Lloyd is the no. 4 running back in the nation according to 247Sports Composite. He’s also the no. 27 player in the nation and no. 3 in the state of Maryland. The Old Line State is one of the best producers of talent in the nation this season. We’ve already been through its best player, Bryan Breese. So, who is MarShawn Lloyd? What kind of running back is he? And can the Bulldogs stretch their recruiting grasps into the state of Maryland?

Lloyd is what you would expect from a five-star back. He’s not a bowling ball or a scatback. He’s an all-around running back who excels at all aspects of the position. At times, Lloyd shows a lot of power. He can run over defenders one-on-one and burst through contact at the line of scrimmage. Other times he displays great speed, hitting the hole with urgency and flying down the sidelines.

Then he completes his game with an arsenal of jukes, spin moves and stiff arms. Almost D’Andre Swift-like with how he can staff arm two defenders in succession. His jukes aren’t as devastating, but considering he can beat defenders in a multitude of ways, unpredictability in each situation will be his greatest strength. Defenders chasing Lloyd have to think about he will contest them.

Signing Lloyd will send shockwaves through the recruiting world, especially if Georgia can also sign Breese. Getting two of the three best players in Maryland could turn the state into a pipeline for Georgia football. Penn State is Georgia’s biggest competition for him right now. The recruiting experts for Dawgs247 seem confident that Lloyd will head to Athens next year. He hasn’t yet set a time-table for announcing his commitment.
