Georgia football will put another center in the league in Lamont Gaillard and he’s a player that many are overlooking going into the Combine.

Lamont Gaillard is one of the most overlooked players in this years draft class. During his final couple of seasons on the Georgia football team, Gaillard did nothing but excel. He was one of the best interior linemen in his junior season and this year was named All-SEC, an award he richly deserved. During his time in Athens, Gaillard has gone from a struggling defensive lineman to one of the best OL in the country. That achievement cannot be underestimated from a lineman.

Despite this, Gaillard isn’t generating much buzz in the draft community. He doesn’t have elite physical traits so he’s been overtaken by a lot of other players on people’s draft boards. For me that’s a mistake because having watched him for a couple of years, I’ve seen Gaillard dominate at his position. When taking on Auburn in 2017, he dominated a very talented defensive front in the SEC title game. He then more than held his own twice against Alabama the past two seasons.

Throughout his career, Gaillard has proven people wrong and beaten out more talented players. There’s a very good chance that he’s going to be sitting there on day 3 waiting to get picked. If that happens, someone is going to get a great value form a player who not only was a great player and a natural leader.

It should be remembered that UGA has a bit of a history of producing good centers. Ben Jones and David Andrews are both dominating the league right now despite being underrated prospects coming out of UGA. Gaillard might be a better prospect than either and he has a similar blue-collar mindset that fits in perfectly at this position. Whoever picks him is going to get a gem and this weekend is his first chance to prove that.
