Near sweep

Number four Vanderbilt only avoided a series sweep with a one out ninth inning homer on Friday, as the Dawgs also took the Saturday contest by pounding out eleven hits for eight runs.

The Dawgs stayed on script Friday – great pitching and timely hitting – until Aaron Schunk gave up a home run in the ninth inning to pinch hitter Walker Grisanti. The blast tied the game at 2 -2 and eventually forced extra-innings. The Commodores took the opener 3 – 2 in eleven innings, and Georgia used four pitchers – wasting a one run seven inning performance by Dawgs starter Emerson Hancock.

With Vanderbilt’s top starter, Patrick Raby and his 1.22 earned run average, pitching Saturday, it looked like advantage Vanderbilt going into Saturday’s afternoon game.
