Georgia football will continue to be RBU in 2019 and don’t be shocked if former 3-star Brian Herrien has a major impact in his final season in Athens.

Georgia football has a reputation to uphold in 2019. Dawg fans have always seen their school as the home of great running backs, but that has gone into overdrive the past five years.

From Todd Gurley to Nick Chubb and Sony Michel to D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield, it’s safe to say that UGA has good running backs. Now going into 2019, it just has one proven player at the position in Swift and multiple other players battling for time.

Brian Herrien is the lowest recruited running back UGA has signed since Kirby Smart arrived in Athens. It’s not even close, to be honest.

Swift, James Cook, and Zamir White all received 5-star rankings from at least one publication. Elijah Holyfield was a consensus top 150 player. Herrien was a 3-star that many didn’t think would academically qualify and get into UGA.

But despite that low ranking, Herrien has been important in Athens. He’s been around the 300 yards from scrimmage mark throughout his career and barring injury; he could improve on that this season.

Without Holyfield now in the fold, Herrien is the most experienced back on campus and a leader in the running back room. While he’s probably the least talented guy in that room, his mental toughness matters to Kirby Smart.

Next. Georgia Baseball has something special brewing right now. dark

Personally, I’m excited to see what the Dawgs can get out of White and Cook in 2019, but I’m not sleeping on Herrien. He’s a senior player who has a great understanding of the offense and a good relationship with Jake Fromm.

Until White or Cook take the role from him, Herrien is going to be RB2 behind Swift. That’s why he’s someone worth paying attention to throughout the spring even if he isn’t a flashy name.
