Georgia Football: 2019 Spring Quarterback Shakedown
Jake Fromm is obviously the starting quarterback for Georgia football, but who will be the guy behind him? Without Justin Fields as QB2, we take a look at the other signal callers on the roster.
For the first time in two years, starting quarterback for the Georgia football team, Jake Fromm doesn’t have to compete for his spot.
He beat out Justin Fields last spring and competed with Jacob Eason in his freshman campaign.
Fields transferred to Ohio State after last season and Eason left for Washington the year before that. So who does Fromm have to compete with now?
Last year, Fromm started all 14 games and didn’t suffer any significant injuries. He completed 206 of 306 passes for 2,749 yards, 30 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Fromm completed 67.3 percent of his passes and ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the SEC quarterback ratings behind Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa. The Georgia quarterback had a 175.81 QBR while the Tide’s stand out had a 202.30 QBR.
While he was one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC, Fromm had his slip-ups last season.
He struggled in the LSU and Texas game, but outside of those, Fromm was one of the most level-headed quarterbacks in the league.
So despite the ups and downs, there were far more positives out of the 2018 season. However, now that he doesn’t have to worry about the starting job, maybe he can get more comfortable and work on the things he struggled with last year.
Fromm has rightfully won the starting position, but should never stop competing because that can only make him better. However, who would take over if the unforeseen happens?
