Georgia Baseball: Hancock’s Heat Earns him SEC Pitcher of the Week
Georgia baseball is off to one of its best starts in school history. One name to thank for that is Emerson Hancock whose pitching continues to help lead the Bulldogs to success.
After leading Georgia baseball to another conference win on Thursday, Emerson Hancock received SEC Pitcher of the week.
Hancock pitched eight shutout innings in a 3-0 Georgia win over Missouri. He tallied up 11 strikeouts, no walks and allowed three hits while on the mound. Hancock retired 19 of the last 20 hitters he faced.
He holds a 7-2 record on the year and leads the SEC with a 1.04 ERA. That ERA comes from 69 innings with 77 strikeouts.

According to Georgia’s announcement, Hancock is also on the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch list.
Hancock is a part of Georgia’s impressive pitching staff that leads the nation with a 2.57 ERA, fewest hits allowed per nine innings with 5.70, and walks and hits per nine innings pitched at 1.04.
Individually, he ranks as the fourth overall in ERA and fewest hits allowed per nine innings. Hancock is also first in walks and hits per nine innings.
In an interview with John Frierson, a staff writer for the University of Georgia asked him what changed from last year to this year, and instead of having an ego, he talked about his defense and how they help him have these stats.
"“It’s a combination of all the experiences I went through last year, what we did this summer with Coach Gearheart in the weight room and how good of a pitching coach Coach Kenny is and the staff that we have here,” Hancock told Frierson. “Also, I’m surrounded with talent, just all around the field; I have the best catcher (Mason Meadows) ask to throw to, the best defense. When you think about that, it’s not just me, it’s a team thing and they’ve really helped. It’s been a long process.”"
Hancock and the No. 4 Bulldogs take on No. 11 Georgia Tech Tuesday in SunTrust Park. First pitch is set for 7:02 p.m. The game is a benefit to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
