NCAA football fans reacted to the latest NCAA rule changes like usual. No one’s happy, especially with the overtime changes.

NCAA football overtime rules were again changed this past month. Why do basketball and baseball never need tweaks to overtime rules, but the football overtime never seems to be just right?

Sometimes the obvious answer is the correct one. The rare tie is part of football.

In fact, there are only two NCAA football games each year that require an outright winner – the College Football Playoff semi-finals. Otherwise, the logic behind the overtime rule comes down to, “We want a winner, so it’s required!” A non-football analogy would be the nine-year-old arguing for ice cream.

But, if we have to deal with this whole tie business and the perpetually flawed overtime rule, let’s stop the tweaking and half measures.
