Georgia Baseball’s Tony Locey Nabs Another SEC Pitcher of the Week
Georgia baseball’s Tony Locey continues to dominate on the mound and the SEC recognized him again this week with SEC Player of the Week honors.
Tony Locey has been one of Georgia baseball’s best assets on the mound. He received SEC Player of the Week after his performance against Auburn on Friday night.
Locey pitched seven innings giving up two runs on four hits while he only walked one batter and struck out 10.
He set the tone for Georgia to defeat Auburn 11-2 in the first game and eventually claim the series on Saturday. It was the first time since 2012 Georgia won a series over Auburn and the first in Auburn since 2006.
This victory was the second consecutive Friday night victory for the right-handed pitcher. His first career SEC Friday night start came against Florida on May 3, and Georgia ended up sweeping the Gators for the first time since 2006.
This honor is the second of the season for Locey. He received SEC Pitcher of the Week the first time after combining on a one-hitter in a series-clinching victory over Vanderbilt.
The Bulldogs lead the country in fewest hits allowed per nine innings at 6.2 and rank No. 7 in earned run average with 3.21 a game. Locey is No. 6 in the country in wins with nine and No. 6 in fewest hits allowed per nine innings with 4.8.
This season, Locey is 9-1 with a 2.63 ERA overall while he’s 6-1 in the SEC with a 2.70 ERA.
Locey shared his weekly honor with Drake Fellows from Vanderbilt. Fellows struck out 11 batters and limited Missouri to a .167 average in seven innings on Friday night.
Georgia is now 39-14 overall and 18-9 in the SEC. The Bulldogs are No. 7 on the D1Basball.com top-25 poll as well. Georgia’s next opponent is Alabama who is 29-23 overall and 7-20 in the SEC.
The Bulldogs host the Crimson Tide for game one on Thursday with the first pitch slated for 7:02 p.m. and the game will be on the SEC Network+.
