Transfer issues

Let’s start with the elephant in the room, shall we? Dan Mullen is having some transfer issues of this own right now.

There is no doubt that in December, Georgia was on the back foot with all of this when Justin Fields decided to move on. Add in the decision made by Luke Ford to be closer to home and UGA was losing two players that many fans were counting on for the future of their program.

But if those losses hurt, the past couple of weeks for Florida make them look like a picnic. Jalon Jones was the quarterback  that Mullen settled on for his 2019 class. Since enrolling early, Jones struggled with the offense and was then essentially booted off campus after he had two sexual assault complaints filed against him within a week.

To make matters worse, Mullen and his staff ignored concerns from their top-ranked 2019 signee Chris Steele requested to move out of the same room as Jones.  Florida coaches chose not to move him out of a room from Jones. That inaction led to Steele deciding that he wanted to transfer.

That is a balls-up of epic proportions. Not only did Mullen bring in a player that teammates realized was a bad egg in less than a month, (something that he and his coaching staff somehow seemed to miss during their evaluation) he also ignored legitimate concerns from his top-ranked signee.

That’s borderline malpractice however you look at it, and Steele might not be the last one to leave. These events have left this once highly praised top 10 recruiting class looking worse than a Jim McElwain special.

To make matters worse, all of this is getting tonnes of the press in the media because Mullen took those shots at Georgia regarding Fields. He thought he was clever back then, but now his comments are being thrown at him from everywhere.

This was always going to be a story, but Mullen has made it so much worse on himself because he just loves to make fun of Georgia. Safe to say that if he were the Dawg’s coach, I’d be utterly embarrassed right now.
