The 2019 Georgia baseball regular season ended the way it began, with Emerson Hancock casting his spell.

Georgia baseball pitching ace Emerson Hancock opened both the regular season and the SEC schedule for the Dawgs. He ended the Diamond Dawg fairy tale season on Saturday, closing the greatest regular season in Georgia baseball history.

“It’s pretty poetic, I think, to have your best guy coming out on the last day because of circumstances,” said Georgia star third baseman and closer Aaron Schunk, who was 8-for-15 at the plate during the series. “But he’s a dude, he’s been a dude since he got here and he’s going to continue to do big things for us.”

Same old song

The circumstances were the same Georgia faced all season – injury. After being sidelined for consecutive weekends, Emerson stepped into the role of number three weekend starter, a pitching role often reserved for “Whoever’s Left’ after grinding through games one and two. Alabama likely curses the circumstances more than Georgia, as the Tide ended their season facing the best starter in the country.

“What a tough draw for Bama, honestly,” said sophomore catcher Mason Meadows . “That’s tough. It’s the third day and you’ve already seen two great arms and then come out and the first couple of pitches are 98 and 97 or so with a bunch of run on it. I imagine it’s exhausting for them.”

What a shame. The good news for Alabama is their season is over.
