Brenton Cox

Brenton Cox stands 6-4 245 lb; he has the prototypical size for what you want in a pass-rushing outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme. In fact, Cox was the No. 2 rated strong-side defensive end in the nation by 247Sports in 2018.

As a freshman Cox played in 13 games, accumulating 20 tackles, including two tackles for loss, and one sack. He also had three pass deflections, showing his ability to cover as well as rush the passer.

Cox intends to be a much bigger piece in Georgia’s junkyard dawg defense in 2019. He will be in a rotation that also could potentially include new freshman phenom Nolan Smith, the nations’ No. 1 junior college transfer Jermaine Johnson, Walter Grant, and Adam Anderson.

I’m looking for Cox to add a lot more consistency to a pass rush that was lacking on Georgia’s defense in 2018. The only consistent pass rusher the Dawgs’ had last year was D’Andre Walker.

Walker had 7.5 sacks in 2018, the No. 2 player on the list, had just two. Georgia must get after the quarterback. The defense has greatly missed the absence of Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy.

This absence is where Brenton Cox comes in; I think he can fill this glaring void that has been missing from the Dawgs’ defense. I think it is well within the realm of possibility for Cox to get 5-8 sacks this season, which would greatly help the Dawgs defense get back to its 2017 form.

Brenton Cox will be terrorizing SEC QBs week in and week out this coming season, and I am here for every minute of it.
