Five Georgia Football Sophomores Primed for a breakout season in 2019

Matt Landers
According to 247Sports, Matt Landers came to Georgia in 2017 as a 3-star prospect, ranked the 97th WR in the nation. Landers is from St. Petersburg, Fla; he is a big target standing 6-5 200 lb.
In his first year with the Bulldogs, he redshirted and played on the scout team. In 2018 he played in just four-game recording no stats.
However, Landers showed at G-Day just how valuable he could be to the Dawg offense this fall.
According to an interview by DawgNation, the reason for Landers’ getting more looks this spring was due to him wanting to step up and fill the hole at wide receiver left by Hardman, Godwin, and Riley.
He goes on to say that he has bought in more this year than he did in his first year.
I think the coaching staff is starting to trust him more as well. For example, look at the trick play they let him run that resulted in a 39 yard TD to QB D’Wan Mathis.
Georgia has had a long list of big targets over the years, from AJ Green to more recently Javon Wims. I could see Landers taking over the same role the Wims once held at Georgia.
He is the perfect candidate for those 50/50 balls where you allow your big guys to make a play over a more than likely smaller opponent.
Landers will have some competition to get on the field though with JJ Holloman, Demetris Robertson, Tyler Simmons, Tommy Bush, Kearis Jackson, Dominick Blaylock, and Makiya Tongue ahead of him on the depth chart.
Regardless of this uphill battle, I fully expect Landers to find his way onto the field and make his presence felt once there.
