Georgia Baseball a top-4 seed and Regional Host for 2019 NCAA Tournament
Georgia baseball found out on May 26 that it would be an NCAA Regional host, then on Monday, the Bulldogs were selected as a national top-4 seed.
Georgia baseball will make its 12th overall appearance in an NCAA Regional for the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
The Bulldogs will host its sixth regional this year at Foley Field. Georgia has won four of five previous regionals in Athens, advancing in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2008.
This year is the second straight year the Bulldogs hosted a regional. The last time Georgia hosted back-to-back regionals was in 2008-09.
Then Georgia got the news on Monday that it’ll be the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. That ranking is the highest in school history.
In the Athens regional is Mercer who is 35-27, Florida State who’s 36-21 and Florida Atlantic who is 40-19 on the year.
Georgia is currently 44-15 overall and 21-9 in SEC games. According to the NCAA, the Bulldogs are No. 3 in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) and rank No. 7 on D1Baseball.com Top-25.
Sixteen four-team regionals fill a field of 64 for the beginning of the 2019 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
The top-16 seeds are No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 4 Georgia, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 6 Mississippi State, No. 7 Louisville, No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 10 East Carolina, No. 11 Stanford, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 13 LSU, No. 14 UNC, No. 15 West Virginia, and No. 16 Oregon State.
In a Georgia Sports Communication article, head coach Scott Stricklin gave this statement about being in the tournament.
“We are thrilled to be back in the NCAA Tournament,” Stricklin said in a statement. “The opportunity to be a host for the second year in a row is a credit to how this veteran team has performed all year along with the support of our fans and administration. We look forward to playing again at Foley Field in front of our fans. They have provided us a big advantage this year and one of the reasons we are 28-3 at home.”
All regional games begin on May 31 and last through the weekend. The SEC has the most teams in the tournament with 10. The ACC has eight, the Big 12, Big Ten and Pac-12 have five each, the American and MVC conferences have three each and CUSA has two.
For the Athens Regional, Georgia is No. 1, Florida Atlantic is No. 2, Florida State is No. 3 and Mercer is the No. 4 seed.
Florida State and Florida Atlantic play in Game 1 of the regional on May 31 at 12 p.m. ET. Then Georgia and Mercer are slated to start at 7 p.m. ET on May 31 as well.
Reserved Seat Tickets are $15 per game or $56 all-session. General admission adult tickets are $10 per game or $42 all-session, and GA for student/youth tickets are $5 per game.
