The story line for this Athens Regional has already been written. After 40 seasons as FSU head baseball coach, Mike Martin will retire.

Martin has never won less than 40 games in a season. He has never missed the NCAA tournament field. All college baseball eyes will be on Martin’s FSU club this weekend as the Seminoles begin their final quest to bring Martin and the Seminoles their first NCAA championship.

It’s ninety percent pitching

The Seminoles came perilously close to missing the NCAA cut for the first time in Martin’s coaching tenure, needing an 11 – 0 win over NC State to schedule the watch party.

The FSU problems are all on defense. The pitching staff has a 4.76 earned run average. Behind the pitching is a troublesome .961 fielding percentage, 1 point off the worst in the league.
