Georgia football makes the Final 5 for the Nation’s Top Recruit
The nations top overall recruit, Zachary Evans, has made a big announcement in terms of his recruiting process. He has narrowed it down to five schools, and Georgia football made the list and is in the mix to secure his commitment.
Georgia football has another opportunity to land anotherNo. 1 overall prospect, but this time its for 2020.
247Sports ranks Zachary Evans as the top overall prospect from the 2020 recruiting class. Evans is a running back from North Shore High school in Houston, Texas.
He is listed at 5’11 and 200lbs and has the potential to be an elite offensive weapon out of the backfield for any team in the country.
Evans has offers from over 40 different schools across the country, and on May 28th he narrowed down his further search to just five schools.

Those five programs are LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia.
Many were surprised to find out that not one Texas school made the final list, especially the Longhorns and Aggies.
Both schools appeared to be legitimate candidates to secure the signature of Evans.
Evans is the nation’s top overall prospect and a running back that any coach in the country would be lucky to have on their roster.
He tested quite well at the Open Regional, put on by Nike this past March.
He ran a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash, 3.84 in the shuttle run, and recorded a 37 inch vertical. Evans has the prototypical size and frame for college football with space to add more bulk. He flashes elite athleticism to a point in which he makes things look too easy at times.
Evans is a home-run hitter that looks to be able to be a high-volume guy in terms of carries at the next level if needed. His size and strength provide great potential in terms of being a formidable blocker and the ability to pick up blitzes.
He had quite a junior season this past fall, going 16-0 on his way to a Texas state title in the Class 6A division.
Evans racked up nearly 2,000 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns while averaging more than 10 yards per carry. He had 110 yards from scrimmage on 23 touches in the state title game to help North Shore pull off a miraculous last-second win.
As a sophomore, he had 184 carries for 1,483 yards and 27 touchdowns and caught 12 passes for 270 yards.
There is one well-known running back that we see similarities within Mr. Evans, and that is Melvin Gordon. Evans has a similar body frame; however, he is shorter than Gordon, who is 6’1.
They both carry the ball with more of an upright running style which allows them to analyze better what is ahead of them. While Gordon is not an elite pass catching back in the NFL averaging over 400 yards with at least 40 receptions the last three seasons, he still is above average.
Evans may not be the Alvin Kamara or James White type; we believe he can still make an impact catching the ball out of the backfield.

Here is a video of a touchdown from Evans this past season. He shows his lateral quickness to avoid the first tackler. The second tackler comes from the secondary, and Evans is able to quickly leap over the tackle attempt before breaking away from the rest of the defense with his elite speed.
Evans has not officially announced when he will make his commitment. This will be a fascinating finish because there is not one school that seems to have the inside track on his commitment.
Whichever one of these five schools ends up securing the services of Evans is going to be getting an incredible offensive weapon that will make a significant impact at the collegiate level. Let’s just hope that we see Evans sporting the red and black between the hedges!
