Georgia football could get its third Heisman winner with D’Andre Swift. If the junior has a dominant season, then it’ll be hard to keep him away from New York City.
Georgia football’s last Heisman winner was in 1982 when Herschel Walker won.
Now the Bulldogs have a running back that could bring another one back to Athens. D’Andre Swift is heading into his junior season, and it’s his time to leave his mark.
In his first two seasons, Swift carried the ball 244 times for 1,667 yards and 13 touchdowns averaging 6.8 yards a carry.
Now those numbers may not seem like much when you look at them on paper, but if you look harder, you’ll see he got some significant yards.

As a freshman, Swift bulldozed his way to the third-string running back behind Nick Chubb and Sony Michel.
Last season, Swift shared the load with Elijah Holyfield. He also fought through a groin injury that bothered him until the final weeks of the year, giving Holyfield more time on the field.
Despite the injury, Swift still managed to have 100+ yards in four of the last seven games.
His best game came against Auburn when Swift toted the rock for 186 yards on 17 carries.
Imagine what his numbers would look like if he didn’t fight an injury all season long.
This season is pivotal for Swift. He needs to show out and become the dominant running back even though he will share the carries. However, Swift could see the majority of the carries until Zamir White gets up to speed.
Swift needs to stay healthy as he can this season and run hard. If he can produce at least seven 100-yard games and go over 1000 yards, he stands a chance. Those yards must be significant to the Bulldogs success on the field.
He has to be flashy with his runs and draw in attention. The more attention he gets with his fields, the better chance he has of making it to New York City and being a Heisman finalist.
I also think if Swift can help lead the Bulldogs to beat Alabama and eventually a national championship. If Georgia takes home the title and Swift has well over 1000 yards, it’ll be hard to deny him the trophy.
Swift has a chance to be in a category with Herschel Walker and Frank Sinkwich, and that’s a pretty prestigious group. The Bulldogs are long overdue for a Heisman winner, and this one can swiftly get one this upcoming season.
