One of the greatest Georgia football traditions is making the trip to Jacksonville every year for the Georgia/Florida game. Why play with tradition and move the game?

Georgia football has some of the best traditions in all of college football. Some might argue that point with me, but in my opinion, they do.

One of those incredible traditions is the annual Georgia/Florida game in Jacksonville. Or as fans like to call it the Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Every year as a way of ending the hot weather, Georgia and Florida fans gather all over Jacksonville, St. Simons, and Jekyll Island to party, celebrate football and watch that game.

Since I was little Jacksonville was a place that my family went to every year to cheer on the Dawgs. In the four times, I’ve been, it has been so much fun. Now we didn’t win all of them, but this past victory, standing on the sidelines was the best feeling ever.

There isn’t another rivalry that places in a place or an environment like these two teams. The stadium divides with one side flooded with orange and blue while the other is red and black.

It is an incredible atmosphere that I recommend any Georgia or Flordia fan experience at least once.

However, I’ve seen that people are talking about eliminating the game in Jacksonville and either doing home-and-home games or even rotating the even between Athens, Atlanta, Jacksonville, and Gainesville.

Even head coach Kirby Smart is open to moving the game.

Now I get that both teams miss out on a recruiting weekend because they make the trip to Jacksonville and neither team hosts recruits there.

But at the same time, the game itself should be a selling point to the prospects.

Like I said before, who does a game like this every year? No one does and being apart of a football tradition like this is something I know I would want to be a part of it if I was a football player.

We as Georgia fans know that every year in the final weekend of October, we will be the CBS 3:30 p.m. game. That time slot is prime time and a chance for millions and millions to see these two teams who hate each other battle it out on the field.

How many other college football teams have an automatic prime time game on their schedule? Not many that I know of, so why take away that?

I don’t know why this argument to move the game continues to come up because we need to protect the traditions of college football as long as we can. There are already plenty of new rules that have changed the game from what it used to be to now.

If it’s not broke then don’t fix it.

That mindset is how people should feel about this game. Why take away money that comes to Jekyll, St. Simons, and Jacksonville that those cities earn each year? It is a massive weekend in the Golden Isles, and it should stay that way.

We should embrace Jacksonville and the Golden Isles during the Georgia/Florida week. I mean the University of Georgia cancels classes the Friday before so the students can make the trip down and enjoy themselves. What are students going to do if you move the game?

The Georgia/Florida game shouldn’t move out of Jacksonville; it should stay. Don’t take away one of the greatest traditions in all of college football.
