Georgia Football: a look at newest 2020 commit Warren Brinson
Georgia football picked up its first commit of June for the 2020 class with another 4-star defensive tackle.
It’s the sixth day of June, and Georgia football already added its third defensive tackle for the 2020 recruiting class.
The Bulldogs landed 4-star Warren Brinson on June 1. With his pledge, Georgia has 11 commits for the 2020 class and according to 247Sports has the No. 4 overall and the No. 3 SEC class. The Dawgs also have a 94.08 rating per commit.
Brinson joins Jamil Burroughs and Nazir Stackhouse for the Bulldogs defensive line group.
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he ranks as the No. 32 DT and the No. 51 prospect in the state of Florida.
Brinson chose the Bulldogs over Florida, who for a while was the heavy favorite. On the crystal balls projections, the Gators held an 80 percent advantage to the Dawgs 20 percent.
This pledge is the second time he committed to the Bulldogs after de-committing on January 29. Then he visited Gainesville on May 18 before reaffirming his commitment on the first.
According to Rusty Mansell’s article on his commitment, he said, “Despite what you read elsewhere, this one has been over a little while. Sources tell Dawgs247 that Brinson has been all UGA for some time and that the public is just now finding out about it. ”
However, what are the Dawgs getting in Brinson? Another 4-star, sure to join the other two Georgia has. But at 6-foot-5 and 299-pounds he is one massive addition to this class.
Georgia loses six defensive linemen after this season so the Bulldogs will be looking for help. If Brinson can pick up the playbook quickly, he could compete for some time.
The Bulldogs will need a guy of his size to plug the hole of Julian Rochester. He will compete with Jordan Davis but Brinson, if he can keep developing could be a good asset for Georgia.
Brinson played in seven games last year for IMG Academy and made 16 solo, 11 assists, 27 total, seven tackles for a loss, and 2.5 sacks.
He is still growing as a player and learning what he can do with his big frame. Brinson has some work to do and may could stand to lose a little weight, but once defensive line coach Tray Scott gets him on campus and started, we could see him blow up on the scene.
The Bulldogs desperately need defensive line depth, and the 2020 class is the perfect place to start. Georgia has a high selling point of playing early and getting Brinson back is a massive relief for the Dawg.
I expect the Dawgs to pick up at least two more for the defensive line in the 2020 class. As for commits, I believe Georgia isn’t done for June.
