Georgia football has had a lot of players to reach All-American status. However, who will be next? Here are two players that could make that All-American team in 2019.
2019 could be the year that Georgia football gets its next defensive All-American.
The defensive unit as a whole will have the most eyes on it this season. There are a lot of questions this defense has to answer. How much better have they gotten?
Will the pass rush be better? Can the secondary survive without DeAndre Baker? Did the run defense improve?
I believe all of those things have gotten better. Especially the run defense. However, there are two guys that I want to highlight that could make a run at the All-American list.
Despite losing senior leadership in the linebacker and defensive back positions last year, both a linebacker and cornerback make my prediction.
First off, Georgia adds a tackling machine in the middle of their defense, Nakobe Dean. Dean looks like one heck of an athlete. Expect a lot of tackles for loss and pressure on blitzes from him.
Dean could be the next great linebacker from Georgia and join Roquan Smith as an All-American.
I think the secondary will not only survive the loss of DeAndre Baker; I believe it could possibly be better. Eric Stokes is a shutdown corner looking to improve on a dominant 2018. Stokes will be starting his first full season for Georgia this year. I expect him to pick up where Baker left off. Stokes, like Baker, did not allow a single touchdown last season.
These two will be at the forefront of a more dominant and destructive defense. Expect these two to be creating havoc all over the field. I expect this tandem to be behind a lot of turnovers and three and outs.
